COALITION PROJECTS

Using the power of the coalition model to support our farmers and increase access to CSA for consumers.

CSA is a SNAP

Use your SNAP benefits to get the freshest, tastiest vegetables from farmers who are growing food for the community with love for the earth.

The Hudson Valley CSA Coalition is offering a CSA program that improves the accessibility and affordability of local food but still provides farmers with the upfront resources they need.

HOW IT WORKS

There is no upfront payment for you as a SNAP customer, but you can help support your farmer by committing to buying weekly shares for the full season, usually about 20-24 weeks from June through November.

  • Step 1: Contact one of the participating farms listed below.

  • Step 2: Make sure the farm knows that you would like to use your SNAP benefits to pay when you sign up. Some farms reserve shares for SNAP customers, although other shares may be sold out.

  • Step 3: Pay weekly with your EBT card and at a 50% discount when you pick up your share from the farm or the designated distribution site in your community. Shares range in cost from $15-$25 per week for about 8-10 items (a $30-$50 value).

CSA Summit

Featuring farmer-led learning circles, full group discussion, and opportunities for individual networking, the Hudson Valley CSA Coalition's annual Summit is a much-needed space for Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farmers and food systems professionals to connect, learn from one another, and identify solutions to make the regional CSA landscape as vibrant as possible. Whether you are a flower farmer looking to increase member retention; a livestock producer struggling to recruit qualified labor; a vegetable operation hoping to supplement your share with wholesale cabbage; or a farmer interested in launching a CSA for the first time this season, the Summit will provide you with tools, an active learning space, and most importantly, a peer network.

The annual Summit generally takes place in mid-February in Kingston, NY. We will announce our 2024 Summit plans in late 2023-early 2024, so stay tuned!

In the meantime, let us know if you have any Summit topic ideas, or whether you would be interested in leading a session.
